Post Thailand Ukulele Festival 2013

its been  more than a month since the recent Thailand Ukulele Festival and we didnt have a chance to update about our travel experience for attending the international event for the first time.

at first, its only two representative and at the very last minute, another two members come and tag along. surely its the event no one should ever missed - especially ukulele enthusiast! we met ukulele players from all around the world - Taiwan, Canada, Japan, USA, Philipines, Indonesia and of course Thailand itself.

being the ukulele player performing to represent Malaysia was such a great honor. thank you Ribbee Ukulele for giving us the chance to perform.

finally, we met Kyas Ryo from Japan. very nice guy whom we had him viewing via Skype during our own Malaysia Ukulele Day back in 2012. also not forgetting, Hawaiian superstar, Aldrine Guerrero, Kalei Gamiao, Derick Sebastian and Benny Chong.

we will make sure next year we will bring the whole Malaysia Ukulele ohana to come and join the fun. and hopefully, we can also make it to Taiwan Ukulele Festival, Hawaii Ukulele Festival and all ukulele festival around the world.

to end the story, here are some photo we took over the two days event.

Canvas Photo Print by Ye Saya Daus Photography

as you guys know, our super talented photographer, Ye Saya Daus had done a superb job in capturing and reminiscing the ukulele memories and everything MUG had been through. its good to have him around to do documentation on our journey  spreading the ukulele awareness also sometimes, we do forced him to perform the ukulele on stage while we do the "moment-to-remember" on his behalf - haha. we never torture him thou. yes, we love him!

to cut the story line short, from the photo that he took, he printed on to a canvas and selling for RM20 only! me and anuar had a copy and we were amazed by the printing quality. its worth the money - its cheap too dont you think? so, daus open for order for this two photo below - i know it may not have you in this photo, but for the love of ukulele, why not having one for art/decoration purposed? yes? :)
if you thought of doing special order, you can contact him personally - maybe he can work something out for you.

you can also view his travelog via this link - Kembara Kita

selling for RM20 each with frame.
order end this Friday, October 11th.

Post Raya Ukejam.

i know its been almost a month from our last ukejam raya, and now im about to update about the event.
its so nice to see everyone in very colorful raya attire and smiling happily to see each other after the raya break with family and friends. bring some raya food to share and story of months that not been told.

due to too excited about raya, we forgot to print out raya song and chords. we just sang together as long as it sounds happy and yes, we did! happy to see kids enjoyed their time while mummy and daddy play the ukulele. visitors and tourist drop by and dance. they dance!

thank you dearest ohana for make it to Raya UKEjam. glad that everyone seems happy. people who attend for the first time also just break the glass of shyness in them and got bonus by having new friends with the same interest. yeay!

see you guys in again in October for more Ukulele Madness!
Mahalo !

Wednesday, 14 August 2013

like previous year, we will organised a ukejam after a week of Raya. so, do join us this coming Saturday at the usual Taman Tasik Titiwangsa (Landmark : Stadium Titiwangsa) for some uke-raya-song with some kuih raya and food. bring everybody down with your most favourite and pretty raya attire - it doesn't have to be baju kurung and baju melayu thou. and also it doesn't mean if you don't have any that you can't come. no worries! just come! its all about Ukulele. raya is just a theme to celebrate together. okay!

don't be shy && don't forget your ukulele !

In the fasting month, doesn't mean we can't do activity due to we can't eat and drink during the day. but in that holy month, we are encourage to do charity work and help the needs.

MUG had been invited by CARES to come by and visit children in Pediatric Ward at University Malaya Medical Center. All the kids there had been diagnosed with Cancer. we are there just to fill in time with some activity and music.

we did some uke-art craft where the kids create their own ukulele with cardboard and decorate it themselves. you never knew how creative the kids are. :)

the kids also did request to us few songs like Najwa Latif's, the famous Gangnam Style and few others korean song, even also 1Malaysia song. we rarely played that but just for the kids, we tried our best. we do play some nursery rhymes that can sing-a-long all together.

on behalf of MUG, we would like to thanks CARES, the volunteers and staff at UMMC. thank you for inviting us and surely we will make some time to do this again with the kids. and not forgetting, dearest MUG members who spend some time cheering up the kids and together make this program happen.

May God blessed us all and give us good health so that we all can help each other when in need.

a showroom visit to - L.Luthier

first of all, we, MUG committee would like to wish all MUG'ers out there, SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI MAAF ZAHIR DAN BATIN !

its been a long holiday of Raya and we hope everyone had a good time !

during the month of Ramadhan, i visited L.Luthier showroom for the first time. its not that hard to find, if you familiar with SS2 area in Petaling Jaya.

"A luthier (/ˈltiər/ loo-ti-ər) is someone who makes or repairs lutes and other string instruments." (wikipedia)

Based on the definition itself, you know that L. Luthier is Malaysian brand of Guitars and Ukuleles. they famous with their very well-known Ukulele Island Model : Tioman, Redang, Sipadan, Langkawi. from laminate to solid top Koa wood. you can only find Concert size ukulele as they most preferred and soon, Tenor size will come to the showroom. Concert size is in between Soprano and Tenor - which i can say, its the most comfortable and suitable size as its not too small nor too big. its just nice.

some model do have pick-up and you can also requested to install a pick-up for your ukes. their selling price is affordable and reasonable especially for Malaysian market. starting at RM200+ to RM300+. if you're a beginner and looking for cheaper yet good quality ukulele, you can find seventone ukulele as low as RM120+.

so, do drop by at their cosy showroom. they open every Monday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm. Closed on Sunday and Public Holiday (but can set appointment for meeting on that day, still.) we hope, more people will support the Malaysian brand of Ukulele and bring up the name to international level and proud to be Malaysian Ukulele Players.

Aloha !

hope you guys are doing great.
weekend is just around the corner and i'm sure everyone just can't wait for it.

i do. :D

so, little update here for the weekend - sunday, if you don't have anything in mind just yet. over the last weekend, during #ukejam9, we had new members joining us and got to know each other while strumming the ukulele together. one of them are ms jaclyn teh.

she's a founder of a group which they called it, KLPAC Junior String Ensemble (if im not mistaken, there are violin & ukulele) this newly formed group is actually one of a way that Jaclyn try to create a bond between parents and children - which is by music influence.

ukulele is obviously a happy family instrument, right? no? i agree with that myself. anyway, after she attended our last #ukejam9, she is organizing jam session at Lake Titiwangsa, this 7th July (Sunday) with the group from 4pm to 6pm. its exactly the same place where we did our ukejam  - look for Stadium Titiwangsa, you won't be lost. :)

do come by and join them, it will be so much fun! we had a super great time last weekend anyway. thats why we can sure this time will be more awesome.

don't be shy. be friendly! don't forget to bring your ukulele, friends and family!
